For E-Books

1. Go to the library homepage: http://www.library.up.ac.za

2. To search for e-books click on ‘Books’ under the search options provided at the bottom of the page,

3. Type in your book title/author/keyword in the search bar below it e.g. long walk to freedom,

4. Click on the search icon,

5. At the left side of the search results page scroll down to the ‘Format’ category and select ‘eBook’. This will limit your search results by displaying only the e book titles related to your search.

Please note that some e-books have restrictions.  You may only be able to read the book online, or only one patron at a time may be able to read a book at a time, sometimes you may be able to download a complete book and sometimes only a chapter of a book.

For articles:

Three ways to get journal articles:

1.  “Everything” on the bottom search bar on the library webpage.  To the left hand side use the Filters to filter under format to articles.  Follow the steps in this tutorial: http://www.library.up.ac.za/training/tutorials/discovery_adv.mp4

2. Databases on the top toolbar under “Search”.  https://up-za.libguides.com/az.php

3. “Google Scholar” will also give you articles.  Please remember u can only click on the links on the right hand side.  Also make sure about your settings on your own computer.  You will see there is a link under the search bar as soon as you click on Google Scholar that will help you set up your computer.  Follow the steps in this tutorial: http://www.library.up.ac.za/training/tutorials/scholar.mp4
